Check Engine Light Diagnosis in Sunnyvale

A parts-store scan gives you a code. A code names a circuit, not a cause. P0171 says the engine is running lean. It does not say whether that is a split intake boot, a failing mass airflow sensor, a leaking injector seal, or a vacuum leak somewhere in a plastic manifold that has aged badly.

European cars make that distinction sharper, because they carry manufacturer-specific fault codes a generic reader cannot even read.
